Ranked as Civilian
I've been looking at some games and movies coming out of japan that are merging 3d characters with 2d backgrounds and 3d effects in after effects.
Namely Ranko Tsukigime's longest day
I'm trying to acheive this look since it not only looks nice but will cut down on the size of the render files if i just have the models animated and rendered and then composite them with background shots. BTW those characters are not drawings- they're 3d models.
So I tried this
Here is a 3D model rendered with basic lighting
This is the same model with a background slapped behind it
Added the character...
I put the background through the filter here to make it look more painted and merged it with the 3d model- the next step after this would be in final render to put the light rays and things in. I added some diffusion to blur things together a bit. At this point its sort of looking like some of the naruto shippuden games but the diffusion - while it blends it better it doesn't look as crisp
Taking it alittle further and making it look more like a painting it can tend to make it look more painted or drawn- this doesn't have the diffusion ans it probably doesn't need it since the character is blurred in with the paint layer. If I mix this and the layer with the raw 3d I could get it a little more crisp i think
